Summertown Choral Society gives two concerts a year, generally in January/February and May/June, in North Oxford venues. The year consists of two terms, and runs from early September to May or June, with short breaks for Christmas and Easter.
Summertown Choral Society welcomes new members of all ages, voices, and abilities. There is no audition. Just come along and sing with us in a rehearsal before deciding whether you’d like to join. Rehearsals for our next concert (6 June 2020) begin on Thursday 13 February 2020 at 8pm in St Michael’s Church, Lonsdale Road, Summertown. For details of what we will be singing, see below.
Programme for the 2019-2020 season
Winter concert: Saturday 1 February 2020 at St Andrew’s Church, Linton Road:
Bach B minor Mass, with Instruments of Time and Truth.
Summer and next concert: Saturday 6 June 2020
Vierne Messe Solennelle; Saint-Saëns Requiem; Franck Panis Angelicus; Fauré Cantique de Jean Racine; Duruflé Notre Père.
And winter 2021 – Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem.
Rehearsal time and venue
Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings, 8-9.30pm, in the Church of St Michael and All Angels, Summertown, between September and late May or early June. There is also an opportunity for a cappella singing with the Summertown Singers in the summer.
Membership costs for the 2019-20 season are £120 for the year or £65 per term. This includes music hire. The annual subscription is waived for those under 30 and is half-price for full-time students over the age of 30, and may be waived or reduced for members in financial hardship.
