Come and Join Us!
Summertown Choral Society gives two concerts a year, generally in January/February and May/June, in North Oxford venues. The year consists of two terms, and runs from early September to May or June, with short breaks for Christmas and Easter.
Summertown Choral Society welcomes new members of all ages, voices, and abilities. There is no audition. Just come along and sing with us in a rehearsal before deciding whether you’d like to join.
Like all choirs, we are not able to meet or perform at the moment, but you can join our online rehearsals for Brahm’s Requiem (originally planned for 23 January 2021 and possibly still performable then), which started on Thursday, 10 September 2020. For further details go to our Home Page and our Members’ Weekly Notices Page.
Programme for the last season and the forthcoming one:
Our most recently performed (1 February 2020) concert was Bach’s B minor Mass, with Instruments of Time and Truth.
Our next concert, Brahms A German Requiem, in English, again with Instruments of Time and Truth, is planned for 23 January 2021.
Rehearsal time and venue
Rehearsals normally take place on Thursday evenings, 8-9.30pm, in the Church of St Michael and All Angels, Summertown, between September and late May or early June. There is also an opportunity for a cappella singing with the Summertown Singers in the summer.
Membership costs for the whole 2019-20 season were £120 for the year. This included music hire. The subscription is waived for those under 30 and is half-price for full-time students over the age of 30, and may be waived or reduced for members in financial hardship.
The cost for the online rehearsals this term – starting on 10 September 2020 and extending to 23 January 2021 – is £30, to include your own copy of the Brahms’ Requiem score. A supplement will be charged if it proves possible to mount a performance.
Please contact our membership secretary if you have any queries.
